Toreador v5

I just downloaded and read the V5 preview that White Wolf made available today. These are interesting snippets of information intended to set the scene — notes from vampires and from those who are researching vampires.

One theme has always been that vampires are not the good guys, and White Wolf hits this theme here as well. You are playing a predator who feeds on human beings. We get write-ups of the Brujah and the Toreador, and both are very much in line with the past of those clans. I like that they list more than one nickname for each clan, and I like the artwork of sample Brujah looks in that section.

Unfortunately, the four female examples are all models with hooker shoes, and the four male examples are all models wearing fashionably ripped street clothes.

I would have much preferred a variety of body types here, as well as some indication that one can be a vampire and not necessarily be fashion-forward. But, again, in both cases, these are recognizably Brujah and Toreador as far as the text goes. Clan flaws are now Banes. Not only do they lose themselves in beauty, but when surrounded by ugliness according to their particular aestheticToreador lose dice from all uses of Disciplines equal to the Bane score.

Also, flavorful. Why do they surround themselves with beauty?

toreador v5

In part, because they have to. Overall, though, this feels like giving them two Banes instead of one albeit weaksauce flaw. We read that incurring Stains in pursuit of your Conviction might mitigate Stains, which is confusing and, since this is a sample, unexplained. Chronicle Tenets are kind of like themes combined with lines and veils from other systems. You are setting the genre conventions, key ideas, and also limits of your chronicle together, and I like the way this is handled.

This is the kind of conversation that games increasingly call for, and it looks like these will have mechanical weight, as violating Tenets can apparently be a source of Stains.

Touchstones sound similar to what is used in Chronicles of Darkness and Vampire the Masquerade 2nd Edition. They are specific things in the world that keep you grounded in your humanity or threaten your humanity when they are threatened. Ambitions are just what they sound like — the general things that drive your character from night to night, beyond the hunger for blood.

So you can dodge bullets, rush around the battlefield in a blur, and run across ledges without having to roll to keep your balance.Login or Sign Up Log in with. Search in titles only. V5 - How to use Lore? Posts Latest Activity. Page of 1.

Loresheets are presented in groups of five according to which npc groups or individuals are involved, and are rated from one-to-five. Each trait is purchased separately at the same cost as an Advantage, and need not be purchased in order.

I will use the Loresheets to connect the V5 characters to the previous characters from the V20 game. Perhaps they are a childe of one of the PCs, or privy to some secret knowledge that the PCs knew from before. I see them as a more concrete representation of the backgrounds.

Having a lore sheet that gives you access to a background gives it a slightly different feel to me than having the same background. Just my 2 cents. Many Loresheets do not make sense to take they cost more background dots than they give.

False Epiphany. Trying to pigeonhole every one into having dots produces whonkiness. Blood and Bourbonmy New Orleans-based Vampire chronicle.

While other vampires can travel through human society, and even blend in, the Toreador do it flawlessly and effortlessly.

They are the closest to humans in appearance; they enjoy being in the center of the spotlight, and having mortals admire them. They're also the best manipulators and can easily get kine to do what they want. The Toreador are creatures of beauty and passion, and most of them were musicians, artists and poets in their mortal lives. Sign In Don't have an account?

The eponymous Carmen is best known for her desire to be admired and for her ability to manipulate the other characters in the opera. This is reflected in the lore of the Toreador which paints them as master manipulators, and the association with Bizets' opera is hinted at in both their love of art and the symbol of the rose. The Toreador are a clan of vampires known for being some of the most beautiful, sensual, seductive, emotional and glamorous of the Kindred.

They are responsible for the legends of vampires who seduce and entice their prey with beauty, love and sensuality. Famous and infamous as a clan of artists and innovators, they are one of the bastions of the Camarillaas their very survival depends on the facades of civility and grace on which the sect prides itself.

Due to their inherent clan weaknessalthough lovely and seductive, the members of this clan are as much prisoners of their artistic vision and sensitivity as they are its beneficiaries.

They are often overcome by the beauty they see around them and can become immobilized with fascination. Such things as paintings, neon signs, or even sunrises can captivate them. It requires a successful Willpower roll to break the fascination quickly; otherwise, the Toreador will stand, awed and helpless, for minutes or even hours.

This trait explains why Toreador so often fall in love with mortals and other vampires. This trait, however, also bans them from ever reaching perfection in their chosen form of art and makes them callous and disregardful once the experience becomes banal, resulting in trails of heart-broken mortals and discarded projects behind every Toreador.

They desire beauty so intensely that they suffer in its absence.

While your character finds themselves in less than beautiful surroundings, lose the equivalent of their Bane Severity in dice from dice pools to use Disciplines.

Toreadors also have the Compulsion of Obsession: enraptured by beauty, the vampire becomes temporarily obsessed with a singular gorgeous thing, able to think of nothing else. Pick one feature, such as a person, a song, an artwork, blood spatter, or even a sunrise. Enraptured, the vampire can hardly take their attention from it, and if spoken to, they only talk about that subject.

Any other actions receive a two-dice penalty. This Compulsion lasts until they can no longer perceive the beloved object or the scene ends. It is said that the Clan's founder, Arikel was a mortal painter or sculptress in the First City. Famed throughout the lands for her work, after her Embrace she painted a mural on which the past, present and future of Kindred society was depicted.

When Caine saw a terrible future for his race, he cursed her with the affliction that affects Toreador today — the art that she loved most dearly would now be her obsession and distraction above all things.

The Toreador had a strong presence in the early minoic cultures of Greece. The Toreador attribute many of the classic tales as distorted versions of actual interference of mortals and Cainites such as the tale of the Minotaur or the tale of Tantalus and Pelops. After the fall of Mycenae to the Dorians, the Toreador wandered across the Mediterranean, often seeking shelter by the Roman Ventrue or the Carthaginian Brujah. At first, the Toreador supported both sides in their struggle, but when it became clear that Carthage would lose, many Toreador abandoned the city and joined the Roman forces, bringing with them tales of debauchery and infernalism that propelled the Ventrue to completely raze the city to the ground.

The Toreador began to insinuate themselves into the city, often competing with the Ventrue and Malkavians. When Rome's glory began to fade, one of them, the Toreador Mi-ka-ildeserted Rome to follow Constantine into Nova Roma, to construct the Dream that had failed in Rome, much to the shock of many Toreador Elders.

Constantinople remained a beacon of Cainite power and glory, until the city was sacked by the Fourth Crusade in and original Cainite population either had fled or was destroyed. Clan Toreador c. In the Middle Ages, the Toreador were a member of the High Clansand their numbers were made up of the same types that are common in the modern nights — minstrels, painters, poets and actors.

Many Toreador insinuated themselves into the structures of the Catholic Church, primarily because the Church was the only supporter of art in these dark times. The Courts of Lovewhich encompassed much of Francewere firmly under their control and the Toreador. Toreador antitribu are the dark reflection of their Camarilla cousins — while they are beautiful social butterflies, their weakness has twisted so that all antitribu derive joy from the emotional, physical and mental suffering of others.

As one of the most powerful Clans within Europethe Toreador prospered in France as Europe's cultural nexus, enjoying the works of various new artists as Michelangelo and DaVinci as well as the works of Shakespeare and the invention of the mirror. The Toreador Antediluviancommonly called Arikel or sometimes named as Ishtaris a powerful Cainite who was Embraced before the Deluge and who founded the Toreador clan in the Second City.

Arikel is a progeny of Caine 's childe Enoch ; she is the oldest Antediluvian and is Malkav 's twin. She served as Caine's "Blossom", in the First Citywhere she sculpted many statues in that hold. The Prodigals told of a story in which Arikel and Troile were troubled by the way the Cainites of the First City behaved, and turned to Saulot for aid.

The Healer stated that only empathy would help them retain a link to humanity and so, both Troile and Arikel went to work on a project of art that spanned a hundred and one years, before they brought it before Caine.

The work inspired exactly those emotions within the audience that they had inspired in the mortal population. Caine was deeply touched by it and called Arikel and Troile to his side, forgiving them past trespasses. These prodigals hold this as the origin of the Road of Humanity. Toreador is generally held to be beautiful, fickle, vain and carrying on affairs with the other Antediluvians. She may be especially despised by Absimiliardwho both lusted for her and sought and still seeks to destroy her.

Some modern Toreador scholars claim that their clan's Antediluvian was killed in the time of Enoch by the plotting of Abismiliard and Setprogenitors of the Nosferatu and Setite clans, who supposedly cut out and ate her heart. Yet, there are records that indicate that she had not experienced Final Deathand had awakened from Torpor around BCacting as an advisor to Prince Alchias. According to the Toreador, as told by Katherine of Montpelierher clan's Antediluvian was known as Ishtar.

She was a mortal who lived in the City of Ubar. Perhaps it was her beauty that led to her Embrace. After the Deluge destroyed Enoch, the Antediluvians rebelled against their sires. Thus, Caine returned to the Antediluvians, who at the time resided in the Second Cityto curse them. According to the Toreador, Caine cursed all the Antediluvians, except for Ishtar, whom he believed was innocent in the matter. Fearing possible vengeance from her angry siblings, Ishtar left the Second City to reside in Sumer.

The people worshiped her beauty and made her their goddess. She also came to have a lover whom she embracedthat was known as Tammuz.

Her happiness was not meant to last, and the beastial Ennoia founder of the Gangrel clanwas the first to find her. According to this version of the vampiric mythology, the Gangrel Antediluvian apparently was a male who answered by the name of " Enkidu " although this was actually the name of one of Ennoia 's broodand that he possessed the Tablet of Destiny until Ishtar tried to take the item from him. Outraged by this action, Ennoia set out to kill the Toreador Antediluvian.

As Ennoia tracked Ishtar to Sumershe embraced Ereshkigal to help her in the attack on her sibling. When the Gangrel came to confront Ishtar, Tammuz interceded, and ultimately gave his unlife so that Ishtar could flee. She then sought aid from the king of Sumer, Gilgamesh. However, he had already been embraced by Ennoia.

The Toreador fled from the pair, but not before unleashing upon them some great monster known as the Bull of Heavenwhile she escaped to Crete. In Crete, Ishtar resided with King Minoswho desired and demanded her gift.

Initially, she refused, but then compromised to embrace his son.He is a Toreadorand the Anarch Baron of Hollywood. Isaac Abrams was a Hollywood producer and film expert, claiming to have worked with names like De NiroScorseseDeanand his childeAsh Rivers. He also knew Ginger Swanan extremely beautiful actress who died in While he was the producer of Negative Zeroa film which proved to be incredibly successful because of the performance of Ash, Isaac noticed that his young protege was partying too much with drugs and booze.

Unfortunately for Ash, he overdosed one night and forced Isaac to Embrace him in order to keep his artistic flame intact.

That would prove to be wrong, because Ash shunned Isaac, hating him for transforming the young man into a vampire.

Auspex (VTM)

Abrams then gave Ash a club, Asp Holea "shadow of his former glory", in order to keep him happy. After the Camarilla 's arrival in Los AngelesAbrams and Sebastian LaCroix made a non-aggression pact, as long as no Camarilla vampire interferes with the Anarch's business.

Isaac was present at the execution of the sire of the protagonist as many other powerful Kindred in the city.

He would later meet the protagonist in Hollywoodwhen they come to him seeking his help in finding the Nosferatu.

Isaac then voiced his interest in a tape that made the Nosferatu flee in terror. After the player delivered the tape to Isaac, the Baron pointed them to a house in Los Angeles' hills, where the protagonist would find out that the tape is the creation of a Tzimisce named Andrei.

Isaac would also send the player to solve a problem with a Gargoyle that haunted the Asian Theater. Should the protagonist decide to persuade the Gargoyle into working with Isaac against the Camarilla, the Baron would be very impressed. Unlike other Anarchs, Isaac is more civil and tolerant, befitting his Toreador blood. He is also very compassionate, as he decided to save Ash's life and then help him cope with his new existence as Kindred, although he was quite unsuccessful. Isaac is very dedicated to the Anarch cause, but he doesn't want war with the Camarilla.

Even though he isn't her sire, Velvet Velour views him as a great person, a patron of the arts and the father she never had.

Even though Isaac loathes the presence of the Nosferatuas do many other Kindred, he is willing to let them live in the Warrens beneath his city, no matter what sect they are part of, as long as they don't interfere with the independence of Hollywood. Isaac is also a traditionalist, as he demanded a tribute from the fledgling in his case, a videotape in order to give them the information they needed.Dedicated to ensuring that mortals never learn that vampires exist, the Camarilla enforces strict order upon the Kindred it claims as its members through rigorously-enforced traditions and rules; as such, the Sabbat are their direct antithesis in almost every way — including their belief in the Antediluvians.

A clan of former warrior-scholars, the Brujah was one of the founding clans of the Camarilla; unfortunately, by the modern nights, they have degenerated into a clan more or less composed of street punks and brutes. They are passionate, however, and always ready to rally under a banner worthy of their cause.

Free-spirited and animalistic, the Gangrel are much closer to the Beast than vampires of other clans; loners and nomads by nature, they prefer to dwell in the wilderness beyond human civilization, communing with the animals and enjoying the thrill of the hunt. Though they were one of the founding clans of the Camarilla, during the Final Nights they leave the Camarilla altogether and become an independent clan. The madmen.

The Malkavians all share the curse of insanity — along with the power to project it onto others, making them a clan to be feared. On the other hand, their madness gives them a unique insight into things that the other clans don't have, and there's often some kind of method behind their madness.

They all share a connection through the Malkavian Madness Network, a hive-mind rumored to be part of the consciousness of the clan founder itself, Malkav. The most visibly cursed of all clans, the Nosferatu are hideously disfigured by their embrace; forced to hide in sewers to conceal their true nature from mortals and disparaged by the rest of the Camarilla, the clan has nonetheless thrived in their subterranean environment — mainly because their outcast nature forces them to bond together in a way that most clans rarely do.

Serving the Camarilla primarily as information brokers, they tend to know pretty much anything that happens in any town they are present in. The social elite of the Camarilla, the Toreador are mainly composed of the beautiful, the artists and visionaries in their former lives, and dedicate themselves to these pursuits even in the afterlife.

One of the most influential clans in the founding on the Camarilla, the Toreador probably is one of the clans most tied to the human world, through culture and social interactions with the kine, particularily the upper classes. As to this, they have much influence over the kine of any city, especially the cultural sections. Vampire warlocks who originated from the now-extinct House Tremere of the Order of Hermes back during the medieval times, Clan Tremere did not attain immortality through traditional embraces, but through magical experiments on Kindred.

Though it took some time for the Tremere to gain any kind of legitimacy as a clan, they eventually helped form the Camarilla and aid the Ventrue in keeping order in their society. Masters of blood magic and the arcane amongst the kindred, they follow a rigid power structure where each childe is blood bound to their elders, extending all the way to the Council of Seven that rules the clan — and the mysterious Tremere himself. Also known as Blue Bloods, the Ventrue are natural leaders, and as such, they believe it is their duty to rule.

It is no surprise that they were the most influential clan in the forming of the Camarilla. Because of this, they are some of the strongest supporters of the sect in the modern nights, and tend to have a skill for management and leadership that is hard to match.

After all, a strong organization needs a strong leader to survive.
